1 How a Bill Becomes a Law Scenarios
In your group, discuss how each particular bill will journey through the legislature in the American political system. Write the steps out for each scenario. One piece of paper per group is acceptable.

3 Scenario #1 R-AZ Senator John McCain has proposed a bill that would make it illegal for an individual to donate more than $ to any particular candidate for a campaign contribution. The bill passes and is pocket vetoed.

4 Scenario #2 R-CA Representative Jerry Lewis wants to limit the amount of money given to Hurricane Katrina. He believes that the estimated amount ($200 Billion) is too much to ask the federal government and its taxpayers to have to pay. It hasn’t gotten past the House.

5 Scenario #3 R-KS Senator Brownbeck proposed a joint resolution to acknowledge a long history of official depredations and ill-conceived policies by the United States government regarding Indian tribes and offer an apology to all Native Peoples on behalf of the United States of America. It passed and is now a law.

6 D-IL Senator Barack Obama introduced a resolution opposing a recommendation by the Carter-Baker Commission on Federal Election Reform that would require all Americans to show photo identification before voting. The bill was passed and is now halted in subcommittee in the House of Representatives. Scenario #4

7 R-AZ Representative Jeff Flake proposed to allow travel between the United States and Cuba in The bill died in subcommittee. Scenario #5
