Hi! We are the Pemberton Elementary School Spark Plugs aka Positive Energy Boys

The Pemberton Elementary Spark Plugs Jayden Dillard Alex Murray Brandon Messick Carson Spotts

You can’t drive a car without spark plugs! Pemberton Elementary School can’t be positive without us “friends for life!”

Being Spark Plugs “ positive energy ” we all agree that you can find an extraordinary friendship in the most unlikely places! (Picture Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

One of our favorite books is

Through our eyes Owen and Mzee: accepted each others diversity, despite their unique differences Owen is a mammal a baby hippo Mzee is a reptile a 130 year old giant land tortoise (Pictures Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

Diversity: The word diversity refers to something that is diverse, meaning that it has lots of different kinds or types. For example, you could have 1 bowl of candy with lots of diversity, meaning there are many different kinds of treats, like gummy worms, tootsie rolls, kit kat bars, twizzlers and lollipops all in 1 bowl.

Through our eyes Owen and Mzee: have an extraordinary friendship because they have overcome their differences, just like us! (Picture Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

Can anyone become friends? Yes! Anyone can become a friend. Our diversity does not stop us from becoming friends.

A persons skin, hair, eyes, can be different colors and shades, but we can still be friends. (Picture Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

The size and shape of our bodies can be different, but we can still be friends. (Picture Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

Our DNA and fingerprints are different but we can still be friends! (Picture Taken From: mrsreardon.edublogs.org March 2015)

Setting: Owen and Mzee live in Haller Park, a reservation in Kenya Africa. Haller Park has an unique ecosystem because it is located on the North Coast of Mombasa and sits right on top of the equator. An ecosystem includes all of the living things (plants, animals and organisms) in an area, interacting with each other, and also with their non-living environments (weather, earth, sun, soil, climate, atmosphere). (Picture Taken From: Foto von Haller Park : Haller Park entrance March 2015)

Their eco-system is home to hippos, giraffes, buffalo, antelopes, and various birds. Haller Park also has mangrove palm trees and a coastal forest. ( Pictures Taken From: africansanimals.blogspot.com March 2015 )

Stephen works Haller Park. He is the chief animal caretaker. (Pictures Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

Setting: Our Environment at Pemberton Elementary School is educational, friendly, fun, helpful, & happy We learn, study, take tests, eat lunch & have recess.

Problem: In December 2004, a tsunami and heavy rains caused heavy flooding, and this separated baby Owen from his mother and he became an orphan. tsunami baby Owen (Picture Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

A visitor name Owen Sobien helped to save the stranded hippo and that’s how baby Owen got his name. (Picture Taken From: mrsreardon.edublogs.org March 2015)

Solution: Owen is saved and taken to Haller Park. There he makes friends with an old tortoise who perhaps reminds him of his mother. Mzee (Picture Taken From: owenandmzee.com March 2015)

Solution: At first Mzee wants nothing to do with baby Owen, but then the magic happens, she warms up to him. (Picture Taken From: mrsreardon.edublogs.org March 2015)

Solution: They begin to rely on each other like a family Mzee becomes Owen’s Parent Mzee & Owen Love Each Other Supporting Each Other A Teacher Mzee Gives Guidance Mzee Gives Shelter Mzee Has Compassion For Owen Best Friends (Picture Taken From: mrsreardon.edublogs.org March 2015)

Solution: This was the perfect solution! The old tortoise didn’t mind the scared baby hippo cuddling up for love, and attention, following along or company. following along (Picture Taken From: mrsreardon.edublogs.org March 2015)

This reminds me of the 1 st day of school. I know how Owen might have felt. Would I be all alone? How would I feel if no one said Hi? How would I feel if no one sat next to me in the lunch room? How would I feel if no one asked me my name? How would I feel if no one played with me at recess time?

Moral of the story We have to learn to look beyond our differences!! Everyone can learn a lesson from Owen and Mzee’s extraordinary friendship.

Differences Do Exist In The World

We have to learn how to respect other people’s differences as well as similarities

We hope Owen & Mzee stay friends for ever!
