Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: monday, Aug. 24, 2015 1.Please come in and sit in your new seat from last week with your new group. This will be your seat each day from now on. 2.Get out your Tradition Paragraph assignment handed out on Friday. You will also need a writing utensil. Today’s Goal: To compare our traditions and those valued to those in the Native American Era Due today: None! Fun fact of the day: The Mormon Tabernacle Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, was built without any nails. Out of Class: Completed Pre-test due to turnitin.com by 11:59pm TONIGHT!!!!!!

Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015 1.Please come in and get out your Pre- test packet from last week. 2.Make sure your name is on it and turn it in to your hour’s bin for writing process completion points. 3.Grab a yellow literature book off the bookshelf and open to pg. 34. Today’s Goal: To learn about the writing style of the Native American culture in early American writing Due today: Pre-test Process Papers Fun fact of the day: A dolphin’s brain is bigger than a human’s. Out of Class: Finish Plot Map

Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015 1.Please come in and get out your Plot Map homework from last night and your tradition paragraph (if you haven’t turned it in yet). 2.Make sure your name is on each of them and turn them in to your hour’s bin. Today’s Goal: To learn about the writing style of the Native American culture in early American writing Due today: 2 paragraphs of pre- test drafted Fun fact of the day: George Washington was terrified of being buried alive. Just before he died, he demanded his body be kept above ground for a few days in the unlikely event he might wake up. Out of Class: None!

Origin Myth Group Poster 1. Read assigned story 2. Complete plot map 3. Work on poster (half of group work on a 7-10 sentence summary on one piece of paper, and the other half work on an illustration on the other sheet of paper.) 4. Tape paper together to make big poster. Everyone should be involved at all times! This is due by the end of the hour!

Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: THURsday, Aug. 27, 2015 1.Please come in and send one member from your group to go get yesterday’s group poster from Ms. Whitaker. 2.On the back side of your Plot Map from yesterday, write “Characteristics of Origin Myth.” Read through your story again and try to identify as many characteristics of a Native American Origin Myth as you can find within your story. 3.Finish any last minute touches to your poster; we’ll begin presentations in 10 minutes. Today’s Goal: To learn about the writing style of the Native American culture in early American writing Due today: None! Fun fact of the day: Gatorade was named for the University of Florida Gators where it was first developed. Out of Class: None!

Characteristics of a Native American Origin Myth: 1.) Passed on through oral tradition 2.) Reflects the culture with cultural details and references to objects, nature, and events that show how the people of that culture live, think, and worship 3.) Recount origins of life and the natural world 4.) Contain characters like gods and spirits 5.) Personify animals 6.) Traditional beginnings Ex. - “Once Upon a Time …” - “Long ago …” - “Before there was Earth …” 7.) Repetition of lines, descriptions, or thoughts 8.) Surprises and twists 9.) Beginning, middle, and end 10.) Suspense to grab interest

Today’s Goal: Identify the course goals and their significance to you Today is: Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 1.Please come in and get out your Group Origin Myth brainstorming Plot Map and directions from yesterday. 2.Use your class time today to finish your brainstorming and begin drafting your skit so you’re ready to present it to the class next week. Today’s Goal: To learn about the writing style of the Native American culture in early American writing Due today: NONE! Fun fact of the day: The ant can lift 50 times its own weight. Out of Class: Be ready for your group to present your skit Tuesday!
