3 How to get your belt. Look at the music all the time. Play almost all the notes at the correct time. Use the correct hand on top. Use proper playing technique. 4- Music Genius… I am able to transfer my note reading to another instrument and read them from the staff with no instruction. 3-Advanced….I am able to play all the notes correctly at right time and read them from the staff with good playing technique. 2. Good…I’m able to play most of the notes correctly at the right time. I am able to recognize a few notes from the staff with good playing technique. 1. On my way…I’m able to play many notes correctly at the correct time and mostly good playing technique. I need by help by look at someone’s fingers to play the notes. 0. Extra practice needed… I can play one or two notes by looking at the staff and remember a few playing techniques. I have trouble playing even when looking at someone’s fingers

4 Recorder Technique 1. Right hand on the bottom 2. Left hand on top 3. Fingers are flat..finger pads over holes slight squeeze. 4. Fingers not in use are Eagle fingers…not Ground Hog fingers. “Eagles Soar..Groundhogs snore” 5. Hold recorder close to your body. (Elbows by side) 6. Recorder points to the ground…your head is up 7. (Embouchure) No teeth! Lips only. “Grandma lost her teeth and ate a lemon” (cover teeth with lips…lips barely touch mouthpeice. 8. Controlled and steady breath. Gentle breeze. Not Hurricane breath. 9. (Tonguing) Whisper “t” to separate notes from each other…(no owl hoo hoo’s) 10. Eyes on the music…not your neighbor…They might not know it either. 11. Start and stop at the same time. Watch conductor for cut off. Musicians who keep playing after the stop in the orchestra get FIRED! http://www.kyrene.org/Page/24536
