Smart Home for disabled people Students: Atara Gutman and Anastasia Logvinenko Instructor: Alexander Kinko PDR presentation Semester Spring 2014 - part A

Introduction Many tasks around the house that seems really simple for us sometimes become a big issue for disabled people. In our project we would like to help those people to manage and complete some of those tasks in an easier way, so they can be more independent, and live care free.

Project’s Concept Building a smart home system for full management and control of house devices. emphasis on:  Fitting disabled people needs  Cheap system

Table Of Contents Control and system functionality Smart home: Top level system Project’s Goals Development Board PC Sensors Choice Time flow

Control and system functionality: Controlling devices around the house Security system Detecting emergency and act properly. Detecting failures in the house “talking” with the tenant – visually. Energy saver Abilities: Switching the lights Controlling the air condition Set the water temperature in the shower Controlling machines such as TV, washer, dishwasher, microwave and more. Motion, fire, failure detecting.

Smart home: Top level system Z-wave module PC zedboard sensors

Project’s Goals  Building subsystem part A.  Learning the Zedboard and its working environment.  Writing algorithms and software for FPGA, ARM and PC.  Create basic PC - ZedBoard communication line.  Building full system part B.  Learning sensors and products to help the system control the house.  Learning Communication protocols for sensors.  Full algorithm system

Development Board

PC Part A : Basic software for communication and board management. Create basic user interface. Part B : Software and interface improvements. Smart Phone– (?) Connecting the house to user’s smart phone device

Sensors choice  1. Market  Z-wave communication  Low cost  2. Sensors:  Motion  Temperature  Light switch  Smoke detector  Wall plug  Doors and windows manager  Fluid  Air condition  Wired sensors Z-Wave is a wireless communications protocol designed for home automation, specifically to remotely control applications in residential and light commercial environments. The technology uses a low- power RF radio embedded or retrofitted into home electronics devices and systems, such as lighting, residential access control, entertainment systems and household appliances.
