TEACHER: Students will only need notebook paper to complete this lesson. They will need to do TWO acrostic poems. Please remind them that each sentence in their poems must be related to the subject word. They must turn in to science teacher by Thursday for a grade.

Acrostic Poem Hints Write the subject word of the poem vertically. Brainstorm a list of words/ideas to include in the poem. Think of any words that might go with the subject related to the topic. You can make the words/ideas fit later. Think how that word/idea could be put into a sentence that begins with a letter from the subject word.

Example: Subject word is “Chemistry” Chemistry is the study of matter. Homework is an integral part of chemistry. Elements are pure substances. Mixtures can be either homogeneous or heterogeneous. Investigations in chemistry can be fun. Stirring is a way to physically mix things. Thermometers are used to measure changes in heat. Reading instructions before performing a lab. Yttrium is a metal, element number 39.
