Methods used to estimate population size Mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) Mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) It is the standard molecular used for reconstructing species phylogenies to obtain indirect measures of effective population sizes. Indirect evidence can be a powerful deductive tool. It is the standard molecular used for reconstructing species phylogenies to obtain indirect measures of effective population sizes. Indirect evidence can be a powerful deductive tool. Measuring the patterns of genetics diversity within and between closely related species can contribute to a understanding of the evolutionary history of those species. Measuring the patterns of genetics diversity within and between closely related species can contribute to a understanding of the evolutionary history of those species. The amount and distribution of genetic diversity may reveal information about historical population sizes. Factors that affect the outcome of the results and play an important role are mutation rates, the molecular clock and nucleotide diversity. Methods used to estimate population size Population Censes Population Censes It is survey of which a pilot of data are processed to measure the population size of the organism. The survey also measures different categories that affects the population size, which plays a vital role in the results conducted. Disadvantage of this method to estimate population size is that not everyone wants to take part in a survey, because of privacy concerns. This result that errors occur in the data collection. Therefore future data collections will be to increase the interval period between the nation censes from every five years to every ten years and conduct a community survey midway.
