State of Italy How did Italy’s states become so wealthy? On pg. 287, List all of the states that were in existence in 1500 A.D. Individual states in Italy were strong do to the riches of trade Individual states fought and took land from one another Merchants allowed kings to borrow money Merchants held the power in Italy during this time

Riches From Trade Trade equals riches Various ports along the coastlines of Italy Italy had the prime location to be the center of trade in the Mediterranean world Trade Goods: Chinese silk, Indian spices, wool, wine, glass, goods by Italian artisans Crusades actually benefited Italian merchants because of their contact with Arab merchants and traders Mongol conquest- Opened up a relationship with China and the far east

Map Activity On page 287, I want you to make your own map of the Italian Peninsula. Make sure that you list all of the territories, and chart those territories in the appropriate places on your map. Write a 6-8 sentence paragraph that explains how these cities might have helped and hurt one another with trade.
