This year is Garfield’s 29 th birthday. Since June 19 th,1978,Garfield has been read in 2570 newspapers by 263,000,000 readers around the globe. The huge success proves that Garfield has become the most POPULAR cat in the world.

Jim Davis was born July 28, 1945 in Marion, Indiana, USA, and was raised on a Black Angus cow farm with 25 cats! His childhood asthma (哮喘) kept him inside a lot, so to amuse himself he drawn pictures. Jim Davis studied at the Ball-State University where he majored in art, and became the assistant of 'Tumbleweeds' artist Tom K. Ryan where he learned the comic strip business in 1969. In 1978, he joined United Feature Syndicate, and launched 'Garfield'-- a fat, lazy, lasagna-loving, cynical cat, probably the biggest cat in comics.

Name: Pooky First appearance: 10-23-1978 Bio: Pooky allows Garfield to show his other side. He’s a teddy bear extraordinaire: cuddly, understanding, and always there when Garfield needs him. Plus he never tries to hog Garfield’s blanket or food. Garfield likes that. Name: Nermal First appearance: 9-3-1979 Bio: Nermal calls himself “The World’s Cutest Kitten”. He often ridicules Garfield’s looks and age. But Garfield gets in his licks. He often mails Nermal to Abu Dhabi.
