Elements of Art! The building blocks of all art works

Element of Art Shape: area that has been closed off by a line

Geometric shape: made using math formulas such as a circle, square or triangle.

Organic shape: similar to shapes found in nature; often rounded and soft

Negative shape: the shapes surrounding an object

Form: Three dimensional shapes Element of Art

Three-dimensional: An object that has a length, width and height.

Free form: shapes that don’t look like anything at all (also know: non- representational & non-objective)

Space: when a picture appears to go back into the distance and create a sense of place Element of Art

Overlap: objects are drawn on top of one another to look like they are in front or in back of each other

Horizon line: where the sky and earth seem to meet; eye level

Landscape: picture of nature or things found out doors

Seascape: picture of a scene at sea

Cityscape: picture that has buildings, streets and other urban scenes
