S TUDENT E NTERPRISES IN V ÕRU C OUNTY V OCATIONAL T RAINING C ENTRE (VCVTC) AND E TTERSTAD V IDEREGAENDE S KOLE (EVS)

G ENERAL I NFORMATION The Design by Young Wood Processing Craftsmen (VCVTC) – wooden products like chairs, cutting boards, boxes. Rett Rundt Hjornet UB (EVS) – a youth enterprise that tried to sell second- hand products. Bottle Cap UsB (EVS) – sold water bottles, where the earning was supposed to go to the project "Water for life" by The Red Cross. The Instructors of Student Enterprise: Kristel Koddala (VCVTC), Roger Vinje (EVS). Activities: Student Enterprise of VCVTC participating in fairs – Christmas Market of VCVTC, Student Enterprise Fair by Tallinn Junior Achievement Estonia, Valga Education Fair, Järvamaa Youth Career Fair "Links to the Future" (quality award) in Paide EVS student enterprises sell their products at the shops established by the school (bakery, second-hand shop)

S TUDENT F EEDBACK : Running a student enterprise as an extra schoolwork is not motivating. Creating a team and participating as a team member is difficult. Founding a student enterprise should be included in the particular school subject. Start of the work on student enterprise at the beginning of the schoolyear and end in spring as a project work or a course work. There is a need for more support by teachers and instructors in the process of making products.

T HOUGHTS AND IDEAS OF THE INSTRUCTORS : All the members of a student enterprise should be contributing equally. It is better to have less members, three members should be maximum. The documentation was well done Short of creativity while generating ideas. Students got stuck in their skills, did not have enough courage to risk. There was too little time to come up with new products. More time was needed for new ideas. Low sales skills - students too shy. The products were too ordinary. Students should take part in a sales training. Instructors should get some training. The work of a student enterprise should be included in a curriculum.

C OMMENTS : The teacher must be really creative. Learning through practice is much more interesting than just filling in worksheets. Instructing takes a lot of human resources. Motivating and guiding of the students is important. Team work - students have no responsibility or activeness. It is a lot easier to work with students who have finished High School.

A S TUDENT E NTERPRISE AS A P ART OF A C URRICULUM : Using theoretical knowledge in practical work. Module: starting an enterprise. Teaching Economy as the part of the curriculum of the Vocational Education. Going through the entire cycle of an enterprise - it gives one practical experience. Supports self-confidence and communication skills. Selling is the most difficult part. Teachers should be guiding while generating the ideas. There is no point of making a product that is already known and in use. It is a great opportunity to advertise the school. Economy teaching in other schools to be taken as examples.
