1. The Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving

2. Who were the Pilgrims?
People who came to America to be able to follow their own religion.

3. Where did they come from?
The original Pilgrims were from England.

4. Where did they settle in America?
Their ship, the Mayflower, landed near Plymouth Rock and they built a town there.

5. Why did the Pilgrims come to America?
The pilgrims did not want to belong to the Church of England.

6. What religion were the Pilgrims?
The Pilgrims were Christians but they wanted to go to their own church instead of the church the King said they had to go to.

7. What was the Pilgrims problem?
They settled during the winter and did not have enough food of places to live. Many people got sick and died the first year.

8. Who helped the Pilgrims?
The Native Americans who lived near them helped them learn how to grow and catch food. They promised to be friends.

9. What was life like for Pilgrim children?
Boys and girls spent most of their time doing chores.
Boys were able to learn to read and write.
Most girls could not go to school; they had to stay home and work with their mothers.

10. Why are the Pilgrims important?
They celebrated what we now call Thanksgiving.
Today we remember their hard work and have a holiday to show how thankful we are to have freedom.
