History of The Armstrong Lawsuit  What was the suit about?  What has been done?  What kind of training is required?  Why does on-line work?

One-On-Computer Training Allows  Flexibility  Timely Training  Effective Training  Ease of Learning

Rationale  Health care staff need training immediately prior to seeing patients.  Historically training is every other month or quarterly.  How can staff be responsible for their actions if they don’t know the rules.

On-line Programs  Roll out in-depth training that fulfilled all of State Mandated lessons.  Distance learning and in-house trainers cannot offer training 24/7.  Allows students to train at own pace. Pollitt, D.. (2010). Employees get the message, whatever their language. Training & Management Development Methods, 24(2), 623-626. Retrieved October 9, 2011, from ProQuest Central. (Document ID: 2017056351).

S Curve Ideas For State Training Adoption of all on-line training for mandated topics. Adoption of much on-line training is realized due to cost savings to State. Adoption of on-line training by departments On-line training will never work because we need stand up trainers. Adoption of on-line training for Some training by some departments Where are we now?

Armstrong Training is mandated by Courts  Cannot be varied  Combines two lessons  Delivered in two hours  Allows for quizzes  Meets compliance issues

Armstrong is currently developed  In lecture format with slides.  Can be put onto Articulate.  Can offer certificate when complete.  Can eventually be put on scorm compliant Learning Management System.

Armstrong and Value  Value is mandated for State of CA only and prisons taking CA inmates out of State.  Able to put on disk.  Send to out of state locations.  Meets code.  Maintains continuity of training.

Has E-Learning Reached it’s Limit?  E-Learning has not met critical mass.  On the upswing in all fields.  Armstrong is just a start.  Classes analyzed to determine best method of instruction.  Courses are decentralized to allow each institution to implement.

Not innovative  Class not innovative for anyone other than CA.  Class can easily be updated if mandates change.

Consequences  Course not secret to patient- inmates.  Therefore can be released without security coding.  Sometimes allows individuals to get certificate without completing.
