1 The Hyperconnected Voyageur Lessons Learned from The Hyperlinked Library MOOC, September – November 2013, San Jose State University, School of Library & Information Science Prepared by Amy Paget “One of the best means of making a library popular is to mingle freely with its users, and help them in every way.” Samuel Green

2 LIS professionals need to ‘free their services’ to meet user needs  I will explore the ways that placed-based services can be offered anywhere, any time and encourage others to be excited about trying this approach to unique local offerings.  I plan to encourage user testing to evaluate the user experience in both my libaries’ physical facilities and in our virtual space.  I plan to champion participative program opportunities and encourage my staff to experiment.  I will embrace mobile technologies and capitalize on their use in order to encourage my library staff to view library services as community geo-social information environments where we can meet users where they are.

3 I am a leader/learner in a learning organization  I plan to introduce personal learning networks and to coach others in their continuous development of this important tool.  I plan to test the provision of personal learning network programs for customers and to provide one-on-one coaching for clients.  I plan to embrace and actively experiment with new learning modalities such as gaming. I will encourage my colleagues to keep abreast of learning research to improve our customer deliverables.  I will experiment with placed-based learning. As community learning organizations, we are very well placed to do so, and to collaborate.  I will encourage our social media team to communicate with our users in a variety of personally engaging voices.  I will encourage the exploration of learning based services that provide curated information in users’ pockets.

4 Change Culture & Changing Culture  I will exercise patience, engage wise counsel, and be strategically considerate in launching and shepherding organizational change.  I will keep my ears/eyes/nose attuned to the changing culture, alerting other ILS professionals to intriguing opportunities.
