Invasive Species MYP Unit Design the Ultimate Invader
2
Area of Interaction Human Ingenuity: Understanding the impact of of processes and products of human creation. Realizing that we, as individuals and in teams, can identify and solve problems because we are resourceful and creative.
3
The Big Idea Change over time: Ecology is the study of the connection between the living and non living world. A healthy environment has a balance between producers and consumers as well as abiotic factors that support its inhabitants. Changes in either the abiotic or biotic parts of an environment may effect the entire food web.

5
Daily Goal You can apply your current knowledge of biology and ecology to design the ultimate amphibian invasive species You can apply knowledge gained of invasive species to critically evaluate and revise your ultimate invader. You will work as teams of 3 to develop the profile of your species.
6
What is an invasive species? Invasive species are organisms that are introduced from somewhere else and take over the environment. They cause problems for other plants, animals and people. They have physical traits that enable them to reproduce and spread quickly. They outcompete native species for resources.
7
What are the characteristics of an amphibian? What are the characteristics of its habitat?
8
How did it get here? How does it reproduce?
9
What is it capable of doing that makes it invasive? What does it look like?
10
Sketch your invader. Use resources to make a sketch that show the characteristics of an amphibian as well as the special characteristics that you have designed for it.
11
What is it’s habitat? Where does it live? What does it need to survive?
12
What does it consume? Is it an herbivore, secondary consumer or tertiary consumer? Scavenger?
