Definition of leadership Leadership is The art or process of influencing people so that they will strive willingly & enthusiastically toward the achievement of group goal.

Power & Leadership In organizations there are usually five forms of power: 1.Legitimate power 2.Reward power 3.Coercive power 4.Referent power 5.Expert power

Leadership Traits Leadership traits might include intelligence, assertiveness, above-average height, good vocabulary, attractiveness, self confidence & similar attributes.

Ohio State Studies Initiating-structure behavior Consideration behavior

Managerial Grid Concern for Production: Impoverished management, Authority compliance. Concern for people: Country Club Management, Team Management. Middle of the road management.

Path-goal theory Leader behavior: Directive leader behavior, supportive leader behavior, participative leader behavior, achievement-oriented leader behavior.

Substitutes for leadership It is a concept that identifies situations in which leader behavior are neutralized or replaced by characteristics of subordinates, the task & the organization.

Charismatic Leadership It assumes that charisma is an individual characteristics of the leader. It is a form of individual attraction that inspires support and acceptance.

Transformational leadership It is leadership that goes beyond ordinary expectations by transmitting a sense of mission, stimulating learning experiences, & inspiring new ways of thinking.
