Sounds a lot like Teddy. Contracted polio in 1921, this causes paralysis from the waist down and a large amount of pain. This is hidden from the public view as he rarely shows the heavy braces necessary for him to stand. Married to Eleanor Roosevelt, an even more distant cousin than Teddy. She is the source of MOST of his unrealized desire for increase in civil rights for many groups, including African- Americans and homosexuals.

The New Deal & Alphabet Agencies The first prescription for the Great Depression AAA Agriculture Adjustment Administration - Help farmers and regulate crop production/cost CCC Civil Conservation Corps - Give young men jobs. Mostly forestry and flood control NRA National Recovery Administration - Provides voluntary guidelines for minimum wage and hours per week WPA Works Progress Administration - Jobs galore from sweeping streets to playing in an orchestra SSA Social Security Administration - Guaranteed income for workers over age 65 for life REA Rural Electrification Administration - Provides electricity thus modern conveniences to rural areas of America TVA Tennessee Valley Authority - A system of dams that provided electricity and fertilizer to the rural South

The Second New Deal The first prescription did not cure the patient so lets try another The first new deal presented by Roosevelt did not solve all or even many of the problems of the Depression. This set of repairs is targeted to agriculture and labor. It also switches from individual monetary relief to economic reform. This continues until the early 1940's as Roosevelt switches from the New Deal and reforms to winning the war.

Social Change Military is still segregated - Not just African, but Amerind, Japanese, Italian as well Roosevelt does not do as much to remove or reduce the ideas and problems of racism as he could because of the political power of the Southern States Token changes made by Roosevelt include: ”Black Cabinet” Native American rights Bracero programs
