Introductions The thesis should be in the introduction Get out basic facts (what you’re going to be talking about in the essay) Bring the reader in –Don’t use a cheesy attention getter There should be a topic or controlling idea or thesis The thesis should be at the end of the introductory paragraph Giving background

Introductions A good introduction orients the reader. To orient –Give a sense of where you are (what is the setting? when?) –Give a sense of where you are coming from (who? Identifying the voice) –Give a sense of where you want yourself and the audience to go Thesis Audience for Essay 2 –People who are in a position to make changes at the school that is important for your story Administrators Teachers Counselors Parents Students

Introductions A good introduction orients the reader. A good introduction introduces your essay and your essay only. A good introduction is only slightly broader than the body of the essay
