Definition: Idioms are phrases or word combinations that we use in everyday life. We understand what they mean, but literally they do not make sense.

Examples of Idioms are... O To pull your socks up O To lift a game O It’s raining cats and dogs O To stick your neck out O To break the ice O To hold your horses O Go bananas

To Pull Your Socks Up... To make an effort to improve your work or behaviour because it is not good enough.

To Lift a Game... To try harder and do better. It also means to work to your best.

It’s Raining Cats and Dogs... Something that you say when it is raining very heavily.

To Stick Your Neck Out... To stick your neck out means to take a risk.

To Break the Ice... To attempt to become friends with someone.

Hold your Horses... Hold your horses means wait or slow down.

Go Bananas... To become very crazy or very angry.
