How to point out parent-child relationships Ask yourself the following questions: Is it a good or bad relationship? Does the relationship grow or shrink by the end? Is there a certain level of trust between them?\ Do they say “I love you” or “I hate you” at any point in the movie? Look closely at these points: Emotions Attitude toward each other Actions in extreme situations Any factors interfering with the relationship

Marlin and Nemo Beginning Nemo is very eager to get out into the world After the barracuda incident Marlin is very uptight They have a strained relationship “I hate you.” Nemo said to Marlin

Ex. #2 Crush and squirt Crush lets Squirt “fly solo” when he falls out of the Australian current Squirt finds his way back and is very confident Crush new he could find his way back and was proud of his son when he did Crush and Squirt are very close and have a secret handshake Marlin learns that he has to have faith in Nemo like Crush has in his son

Example # 3 Gil and Nemo Nemo and Gil have a similar" lucky” fin and are from the ocean not pet store like others. Gil has plan to free fish from tank but plan is not good but because Nemo admires Gil he wants to help. Nemo tries to help and does not succeed in plan. Nemo apologizes for this. Nemo retries the plan and succeeds.

Example #4 Marlin and Nemo: End End of movie Relationship is very different from beginning Marlin trusts Nemo to save Dory and other fish. This shows that now Marlin has raised his confidence in Nemo. After Nemo has saved all fish he is trapped in net. Marlin still shows extensive care for Nemo.

Kid & Parent Relationships Parents and kids are faithful to one another Prior to Nemo getting lost, Marlin was overprotective of his son In the end, after seeing other parents have such faith in their children, Marlin allows Nemo to take risks and has faith in Nemo’s capabilities
