12. The Curse of Control Control is trying in the energy of the flesh to make things go the way we want and make others do the things we think will make us happy, feel better about ourselves, advance our career, keep us safe or secure or popular, or meet our needs.

13. Why Do We Control?
Pride: We sincerely (wrongly!) think we know what’s best.
Success: Things seem to go well when we run the show.
Pain: We have been hurt (abused, neglected, betrayed, etc)
Greed: We want what we want when we want it.
Insecurity: We fear rejection, failure, etc. (this can lead to perfectionism, OCD, occult involvement).

14. Why do we control? (cont’d)
The root problem is unbelief. We are not fully convinced that God will come through for us. But Scripture says, “casting all your cares on Him because He cares for you” (I Peter 5:7)
