BBSST: Building Based Student Support Team Blount County Schools James E. Carr Superintendent

BBSST Purpose Provide a school-based, problem solving group to provide assistance for particular students Discuss issues related to specific needs of teachers & students related to student learning Offer teachers assistance in resolving learning problems of students

BBSST Benefits Collaborative, problem-solving model Responsibility, expertise, and accountability are shared Immediate support Documentation Appropriate referrals Clarification of difficulty Evaluation of interventions and strategies Accommodations to classroom programs for individual needs Enhancement of ability to teach all students Professional Environment

The BBSST Team Members: –Administrator –Teacher requesting support –Regular educator –Guidance Counselor –Auxiliary members (as needed) Title I, Special Educator, Nurse, Other Administrators, Agency Reps.,

Team Roles Administrator –Appoints members and facilitator –Supervises entire process Facilitator –Schedules meetings, prepares agendas –Facilitates meetings –Stores data Recorder –Records meeting notes Teacher requesting support –Provides documentation

BBSST Activities Identify strengths and needs of students. Assess needs at the individual, classroom, and building levels. Facilitate and expedite student screening, assessment, and placement. Provide and/or secure technical assistance for individuals or groups. Suggest and/or recommend alternative programs, strategies, curricula, and techniques.

Referral Process Teacher Identification of a Student with Need –Document interventions attempted and student response –Decision for referral –Complete referral form and attach all required documentation –Deliver referral to facilitator BBSST meeting Implement strategies as directed by BBSST BBSST follow-up session(s)
