Acme Basin B Discharge Project Project Purpose The Everglades Forever Act requires that all discharges to the Everglades Protection Area must meet water quality standards by December 31, 2006. Acme Pumps #1 and #2 currently discharge stormwater runoff from Acme Basin B directly into the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge (Refuge), part of the Everglades Protection Area. The purpose of the Acme Basin B Discharge Project is to divert stormwater runoff from Acme Basin B to the C-51 West Canal and then to STA-1E for treatment prior to discharge to the Refuge. Excess available water may be used to meet water supply demands in central and southern Palm Beach County.

Required C-1 Canal modifications are less than BODR –Modeling indicates that 220 cfs is not needed along entire length – flow incrementally increases from 67 cfs at Structure #40 to 220 cfs at AcmePS7 Realignment of Flying Cow Road minimized by using curb & gutter, guardrail, and steeper canal slopes –Reduces cost AcmePS7 was moved 1,000 ft south from C-51 canal to near FPL crossing –Moves pump station away from residences AcmePS7 equipped with gravity discharge bay –Reduces cost of operation Pump stations will be diesel not electric –To meet District standards Section 24 primary purpose changed from passive wetland to detention area –Maintains flood attenuation and level of service locally and in the C-51 Canal –Temporary storage provides regional benefits –Reduces phosphorus load to C-51 Canal / STA-1E Section 24 seepage canal added –Protects against groundwater mounding Acme Basin B Discharge Project Design Modifications After BODR / August 2005 Workshop
