AuScope Portal

CSIRO. AuScope Portal AuScope Portal … What is it ? Why do we need it ? How does it work ? What can it do for me ? Why should I use it ? Where to next ?
3
CSIRO. AuScope Portal What is it … The entry web application for the AuScope community and other interested users to discover and acquire data from various services of interest.
4
CSIRO. AuScope Portal Why do we need it … The old way of doing things … Calvin is interested in all the gps stations in the area (-32.1756, 113.9063), (-25.3639, 127.0020). Calvin calls up Hobbes – “Hey Hobbes, can you tell me the gps stations in this area” Hobbes – “Sorry Calvin, I’m vacationing in Hawaii with Ben – can’t tell you about boreholes.. but we’re both sun burnt !! You can ask RockDude though.. Its simple !!” Calvin calls up RockDude – “Hey, can you tell me the gps data in this area” RockDude – “Sure.. I’ll send you a hard disk with the dataset that we collected from the Geodesy server. It’ll reach you in 5 days.. Its simple !!” Calvin after 5 days – “Oh I received this hard disk.. But how do I read this data ?? I don’t understand.. let me talk to CompGeek” CompGeek – “No worries.. Give me 5 days and I’ll write a software to read this data for you.. Its simple !!” Calvin after another 5 days – “Yes I can read this data now, but looks like some of this is 10 days stale.. ITS NOT THAT SIMPLE !!”

CSIRO. AuScope Portal Why do we need it … The new way of doing things.. Calvin is interested in all the gps stations in the area (-32.1756, 113.9063), (-25.3639, 127.0020). Calvin goes to http://aucope-portal.arrc.csiro.au/portalhttp://aucope-portal.arrc.csiro.au/portal Calvin discovers all the stations in his area of interest Calvin goes to a map interface – he reads all the data about all the station. He can see them visually on a map or he can read them from an XML !! He downloads the data he is interested in and fires his compute jobs. The next day Calvin again goes to the portal’s map interface and he sees that the data has been automatically updated !! He downloads the new data and fires his compute jobs – Now that is simple !!

CSIRO. AuScope Portal How does it work ? To discover data - All you need an internet connection - Access - http://auscope-portal.arrc.csiro.au/portalhttp://auscope-portal.arrc.csiro.au/portal To transfer data to Grid – Username and password on the AuScope IdP Grid credentials uploaded to the myproxy server
7
CSIRO. AuScope Portal What can it do for me ? Can the databases that I am interested in have a WFS response ? If yes then AuScope portal can read them and show all interested users the availability of the dataset, what data is available, how to access it (the URL to download the WFS response) Can LeapFrog read WFS response and directly take in all the data available ?
8
CSIRO. AuScope Portal Why should I use it … Once the datasets, you are interested in, are available through a WFS response, all you have to do, is be able to read an XML file !! No more reading complex databases, to extract what you need. One time work to convert your database into an internationally accepted format. Once your end application (LeapFrog) can read a WFS response, it can any WFS !! The entire worlds databases on your desktop !! Discover them through the AuScope portal and use them !!

CSIRO. AuScope Portal Where to next … More. More, more datasets Display WMS – so which boreholes fall in this tenement ? Read CSW – catalogue service to discover services in a certain area.nexus
