What is a noun? A NOUN is a word or group of words used to name a person, place, thing or idea.

Examples: Persons: Sidney Crosby, doctor, friend Places: Grand Canyon, Pittsburgh, kitchen Things: lamp, Eiffel Tower, Nobel Prize Ideas: happiness, liberty, bravery, patriotism

What is the difference between common and proper nouns?

A common noun is any one of a group of persons, places, things or ideas and is not capitalized.

WHAT IS A CONCRETE NOUN?

A concrete noun names a person, place, or thing that can be perceived by at least one of our senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell)

Examples of concrete nouns: Photograph, music, apples, rose

What is an abstract noun?

An abstract noun names an idea, a feeling, a quality, or a characteristic. You can’t experience it with your senses.

Examples of abstract nouns: Idea – fun, freedom Feeling – love, happiness Quality – beauty, wisdom Characteristic – self-esteem
