19th century In the 19th century turtlenecks were worn by athletes, sailors, naval officers and the working class.

1920’s Europe: In the 1920’s turtlenecks were used as sportswear and also associated with philosophers and artists. U.S: Noel Coward, an English playwright turned turtle necks into middle class fashion worn by both men and women.

1960’s The black turtleneck was a must have item in the 1960’s. Aubrey Hepburn made it famous by wearing one in the movie Funny Face(1957). The turtle neck became the alternative for formal wear and was a smart form of dress. For college students it become a part of their preppy wardrobe.

Colors I think the colors will be a mid-tone berry colors and winter colors.

Prediction I predict that there will still be the classic black turtleneck around but also turtlenecks with pattern and color. Whether it be paisley, color-blocking or stripes. This item will be the modern day version of a turtleneck sweater.

Style For the fall, I can see the turtleneck being layered with dresses, tops and jackets or paired with a great statement necklace. I believe that the turtleneck craze this fall is a tribute to Steve Jobs signature look.
