2 Nouns WB 1-2 A noun is a naming word
Names a person, place, thing, or idea A noun can be used as the subject, an appositive, the direct object, the indirect object, the object of the preposition, object complement, and the subject complement Refer to notes – “Sentence Elements”

3 Singular and Plural Nouns
Add –s to most nouns to form the plurals Add –es to form the plurals of nouns ending in s, x, z, ch, sh dress=dresses church=churches box=boxes flash=flashes Form the plurals of nouns ending in y preceded by a vowel by adding –s toy=toys attorney=attorneys birthday=birthdays guy=guys

Form the plurals of nouns ending in y preceded by a consonant by changing the y to i and adding =es lily=lillies baby=babies colony=colonies party=parties

5 Singular and Plural Nouns
If a noun ends in o preceded by a vowel, form the plural by adding –s trio=trios rodeo=rodeos If a noun ends in o preceded by a consonant, form the plural by adding –es Tomato = tomatoes There are exceptions to this rule…check a dictionary Zero= zeros or zeroes pianos=pianos
