Aim: How do we examine how symbolism is used in Macbeth to enhance the reader’s understanding of the novel? What are some symbols in your life? List at least 5.

What is literary technique or a literary device and why do authors use them in their works?
Any element or the entirety of elements a writer intentionally uses in the structure of their work. Some common literary devices include: Theme, symbolism, characterization, irony, point of view. Literary elements enhance the reader’s understanding of the story. Universal ideas that transcend everyday existence.

What is Symbolism symbol (sim-bol): a symbol is a word or object that stands for another word or object. The object or word can be seen with the eye or not visible. (animate or inanimate) Symbols are objects characters, fugires and colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. For example, a dove stands for peace. The dove can be seen and peace cannot. All language is symbolizing one thing or another.
