Respiration
2
To stay alive, cells need: 1.Food 2.Energy 3.To get rid of waste 4.To reproduce
3
Respiration produces energy for cells. ALL organisms, including animals and plants, break down sugar into carbon dioxide and water. Chemical Equation for Respiration: C 6 H 12 O 6 + O2 O2 H 2 O + CO 2
4
The cell uses the energy made by respiration to build, repair, and reproduce cells. Respiration occurs in the mitochondria.
5
Cellular Respiration
6
When cells do not have enough oxygen to do respiration, they use fermentation to make energy. Fermentation breaks down sugar without oxygen and makes lactic acid as a waste product. Lactic acid is what makes your muscles burn when you work out really hard.
