3 HIGH SCHOOL STUFF

4 Stuff to know about high school… Block Schedule Testing (finals, STAAR, PSAT) Regular or Pre-AP Classes PE or Athletics Transcript – Permanent Record

5 Block Schedule 8 periods but over two days: A Day: 1 st -4 th periods B Day: 5 th -8 th periods Some classes meet both days: Athletics Double Block Math Classes

6 Testing Finals STAAR (English I, Algebra I, Biology) PSAT (optional for Freshmen)

7 Regular or Pre-AP Classes? Please discuss this with your family Best practice: take the PreAP class if possible

8 PE or Athletics Must have 1.0 credit to graduate Most students take one or the other their Freshmen year PE meets every other day Athletics meets every day

9 Transcript PERMANENT record of all of your classes and state assessments (STAAR) All of your future employers, scholarship entities, and post-high school colleges and military require it

10 CHOOSING CLASSES What do you want to be when you grow up?

12 Course Guide Go through it with your parent and ask your current teachers lots of questions. Which classes are right for me?

18 What if I still don’t know? Most Freshmen take: 1.English 2.Math 3.Science 4.Social Studies 5.Foreign Language 6.PE or Athletics 7.Fine Art 8.An Elective in a pathway

19 What if I still don’t know? Choose the multidisciplinary endorsement for now…you and your counselor will review it during your freshman year

20 When do I meet with a counselor to sign up for my classes? Have your parent go to the GHS website and choose an appointment date and time. When we meet with you, we will enter your class choices in our computer system.
