A common noun names a person, place, thing, or idea.

Nouns In 10 minutes, list as many nouns that you can. (look around the classroom) Place a “P” beside the noun for person. Place “PL” beside the noun for places. Place a “T” beside the noun for things.

What is a proper noun? A proper noun names a particular person, place, thing, or idea. It is always capitalized. In proper nouns of more than one word, each important word is capitalized. East Middle School Empire State Building

Take the list that you created with nouns. Exchange papers with the person behind you. On your new paper mark the noun as a common or proper noun. If it is a common noun, write a proper noun beside it. Give it back to the owner when you are done.Owners check their work.
