Question / Purpose (Question that interests you or one that you are getting paid to answer) How does ________________ affect the rate of seed germination? (what will you use to fill in the blank? Soaking in coke, HCl acid, alcohol; sanding, cracking, etc)
3
Hypothesis (General statement about what you have observed along with a prediction of what will happen next time) (Use Occam’s Razor as a guide) If I ____________________, the seed will germinate faster than if it were soaked in water
4
Materials: (what you will need) -6 Corn seeds -2 Paper Towels -2 ziplock bags - ? - ?
5
Procedures: (how you will test the hypothesis. Should have at least 2 groups and list as steps) Control Group: 1. Soak 3 seeds in water for 1 hour 2. Place seeds on a damp paper towel 3. Place paper towel & seeds in a ziplock bag and seal it shut 4. Check on seeds each day 5. If towel dries out, re-wet it 6. Record each day a seed germinates Experimental Group: 1. ? 2. Place seeds on a damp paper towel 3. Place paper towel & seeds in a ziplock bag and seal it shut 4. Check on seeds each day 5. If towel dries out, re-wet it 6. Record each day a seed germinates
6
After you develop your experiment, ask yourself the following question: Does my experiment really test my hypothesis?
7
Data (Place to record all measurable data) Data: Control Group Experimental Group Day 1 soaked in water 1 hour ? Day 2 no change ? Day 3
8
Results (what happened?) The seeds that were _______________ germinated _______ day(s) faster than the seeds that were _________________
9
Conclusions (Was your hypothesis supported by the data? Opinions about why you got the results you did. What did you learn?) My hypothesis (was/was not) supported by the data. The seeds that were ______________ germinated faster than the ______________ group. I think this happened because ________________

Sources of Error (What could have affected the outcome of the experiment?) Possible sources of error may have been: ___________________

From this experiment, list the following: Independent(Manipulated) Variable: Dependent(Responding) Variable: Control: Constants:
