Who is Michelangelo? Born on March 6, 1475 Caprese, Italy Second of five sons. Died on February 18, 1564 (Age 88) Rome, Italy Family in the banking business Father- Leonardo di Buonarrota Mother- Francesca Neri Unable to care for Michelangelo; A stonecutter family cared for him. Taught by Domenico Ghirlandaio (a popular artist in Florence) Skill of fresco painting At 16 he attended a special school for the study of sculpture founded by Lorenzo de Medici.

David and The Sistine Chapel The statue of David was created from 1501-1504 14.0 feet marble statue Biblical hero David Represented as a standing nude male Location Courtyard of the Opera del Duomo. Galleria dell’ Accademia – or Accademia Gallery – in Florence, Italy (Today) The Sistine Chapel ceiling was painted between 1508 and 1512. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo wrote a poem about his unpleasant experience painting the Sistine Chapel. Contains more than 300 figures. Depicts nine stories from the book of Genesis including the famous “Creation of Adam”.
