The Development of the Gospels --development of Gospels to place in three main steps: 1)Development began with the disciples’ experiences of Jesus’ life, death and Resurrection 2)During the second stage, the disciples and early church proclaimed the Good News throughout the Roman Empire 3)The final stage saw the Gospels written down by the Evangelists, who had collected and edited material from all the previous years (this stage began about 30 years after Jesus’ crucifixion)

4. The Gospels differ from one another in terms of author, time of writing, audience, and purpose. Although each Gospel is a separate and unique picture of Jesus, no one Gospel tells us everything we need to know about him. To gain a better understanding, we must consider all four Gospels.

5. The Gospel of Matthew The Gospel of Matthew is known as The Gospel according to the Hebrews Traditionally, Matthew has always been listed first. It was most likely placed first since: – a) well organized, detailed – b) emphasis on Jesus as the promised Messiah – c) natural link between Old and New Testament - Jesus’ genealogy in Chapter One – d) contains the Beatitudes
