1 Telomeres Summarize this source. 1.This article is about why telomeres are important to the aging process of human cells, in addition to advantages of preserving telomeres. 2. This article provides background on telomeres coupled how and why they shorten. 3. This article is a short synopsis of science and history regarding telomeres. What are the important details in this source? 1. In young humans the length of telomeres is approx.: 8000-10,000 nucleotides long 2. New techniques for lengthening telomeres by 1,000 nucleotides causes rapid cycles of mitosis 3. Average cell loses 30 to 200 base pains from the end of telomeres degrading 4. Newborns have 8,000-3,000 base pairs and the elderly have as low as 1,500 5. Telomeres were first observed in the 1930s. 6. The link between telomeres and aging was made nearly 30 years ago. What trends do you see? 1. A common trend in this article is the science behind telomeres and what they can be applied to in the future. 2. A trend in this article is how and why telomere divide and shorten, in addition to disease prevention, anti- aging, and prospect for human immortality. 3. The trend is the advancement in history exploring telomeres. How has the problem changed over time? What perspective do you see in this source? 1.In this source I see the beginning stages of a breakthrough in science, medicine, and human aging. 3. This source is from a scientific and logical approach. 4. I see this source from the perspective of a history buff because it goes more into depth about the history than telomeres themselves. 1. Using new tactics and technology they can lengthen telomeres by 1,000 nucleotides making cells treated replicate 40 times more than untreated cells. However, like a car they burn out of fuel quickly. 2. This article’s issue at had is that this its the beginning of understanding telomeres in the world of science. Science has learned and discovered so much in such a short amount of time. 3.The problem faced in this source regards how recently telomeres have been discovered. It has changed by new research furthering our knowledge about telomeres.
