Line of Best Fit A line of best fit is a straight line that best represents the data on a scatter plot. This line may pass through some of the points, none of the points, or all of the points Splits half the points on one side and the other half on the other side.

No Relationship Can split the points from more than one angle. Example: Length of the lifeline hand and your grade point average. If I know your GPA, I don't have any idea how long your lifeline is. Can’t Draw a Line of Best Fit

Positive Relationship High values on one variable are associated with high values on the other and low values on one are associated with low values on the other Positive relationship between years of education and the salary one might expect to be making Line of Best Fit goes up

Negative relationship Negative relationship implies that high values on one variable are associated with low values on the other. Show an idealized negative relationship between a measure of self esteem and a measure of paranoia in psychiatric patients. Line of Best Fit goes down
