Pneumatics & Hydraulics Section 1 Robotics, Electronics, and Fluid Power
2
Objectives By the end of the unit, the students will be able to: 1. State what Pneumatics and Hydraulics are 2. State why Pneumatics and Hydraulics are important 3. Demonstrate how to draw a Pneumatics System 4. Demonstrate how to wire a Pneumatics System 5. State what the parts of a cylinder are
3
What are Pneumatics and Hydraulics What is the difference between Hydraulics and Pneumatics? Answer: Hydraulics uses Hydraulic oil and Pneumatics uses air
4
Why are Pneumatics and Hydraulics important Why are Pneumatics and Hydraulics important Pneumatics and Hydraulics are important because they allow us to operate machinery that is capable to lifting heavy objects or to move machinery into precise positions. Examples of hydraulics operations are excavators or front loaders. Examples of Pneumatics are air bags on a vehicle.
5
Drawing a Pneumatics System Drawing a Pneumatics system can be tough if you don’t know how to read one. Symbols are used to help describe various operations and parts. In your packet you will see a variety of symbols used. The next couple of slides shows different symbols and their explanations.
