1 Dynamic Ecosystems – Unit 2 AOS 2

2 Aims 1.To describe the five key relationships between organisms found in ecosystems 2.To be able to apply this knowledge in a novel setting 3.To investigate interactions among organisms in an ecosystem of choice

13 SYMBIOSIS Is an extended association between 2 species in a community where at least one of the organisms benefits There are three different types of Symbiosis Relationships, we will examine each of these

27 RelationshipDescription Parasitism Predator-Prey Relationships Intra-species Competition Mutualism Inter-species Competition Commensalism One organism lives on or in another organism and feeds on it, without killing it The same species compete for resources for survival Two different species both benefit from having a relationship One species benefits from a relationship with another organism while the other is neither harmed nor benefits One organism kills and feeds off another organism. Two different species compete over resources for survival

28 Activity: Imaginary Organisms Break up into groups of 3 You will be given a set of cards Each set will contain imaginary organisms with different needs. Create each of the 5 relationships by matching organisms up based on their needs. You will need to add information to make the relationships make sense

29 Research Task Break up into groups of three Based on previous lessons, choose an ecosystem that interests you Research the interactions among organisms found in this ecosystem Create a poster mapping out these relationships You will be asked to present your findings to the rest of the class at the end of the lesson
