WHAT DID WE CONSULT ON? Monthly collection of the existing 240L wheelie bin; Fortnightly collection of a 140L ‘skinny’ wheelie bin; Fortnightly collection of two ‘black’ bags; PLUS an Absorbent Hygiene Product (AHP) service 06/12/2015Slide 6

REMINDER OF WHAT WE’VE ASSUMED Won’t charge for green waste collection – council needs to endorse this Extra allowance at Christmas/New Year Won’t provide food liners at this time but will investigate options for sponsorship – will be subject of a future separate report Everything else will remain the same – this only affects the black bin Still need to come back about an Enforcement Policy 06/12/2015Slide 7

WHAT DID THE CONSULATION SAY? 74% of the public expressed a preference for the ‘skinny’ bin 13% expressed a preference for monthly collections 7% expressed a preference for a bag collection 7% of replies were ‘spoilt’ The crews prefer bags It was representative (1052 target, got 1492 so 95% confident this is a representative response for our population) All comments received were analysed and will be acted upon 06/12/2015Slide 8

NEXT STEPS … cont Approval by council today to reduce residual capacity by replacing the 240L black wheelie bin with a 140L black wheelie bin. Approval by Council today to introduce a new dedicated fortnightly service for absorbent hygiene products. Approval by Council today that we do not introduce food caddy liners at this stage and pursue a cost neutral means of doing so in the future. 06/12/2015Slide 20

NEXT STEPS … cont Approval by Council today to delegate responsibility for the implementation of the new system to the Chief Officer, Neighbourhood Services. A further future report to Council on the prudential borrowing option for purchasing the new bins. 06/12/2015Slide 21
