Founded in 1989 –Founder Swati Chauhan is a social activist and attorney serving over –29 villages and 30K students in neighboring villages of Pune district –Rachana overlooks management of 12 balwadi, girls, and co-ed schools Educational Focus areas –Pre-primary for children deprived of formal education –developmental and non-formal education for drop out girls –Supportive education for primary on-going school students Aim of Rachana –Education –Empowerment –Health issues Background information on Rachana, Pune

–Rachana Background Over 12 schools being overlooked by Swati and her team Balwadi – used both for kids and adult education Girls/Boys schools – used for helping out drop outs or struggling students to finish 10 th Post-SSC – helping students with higher education –Response/Growth Parents recognize the importance of edu and are pitching in Students traveling over 10kms to go to school Ambitious kids researching on their own how to get a career as nurse, policeman,etc Awareness campaign helping secure funding for some schools through government As such, need to grow Current Infrastructure and Support in place

Expenses (INR) –Recurring = 3.23L+ –Fixed Cost = 0.5L+ –Teacher/Staff Salary (1.5K/1K per month) Elec/Water/Actg costs (45K annually) Revenue stream –30-40% students pay fees of Rs.10+ –CRY and AID have cut back due to funding shortages –Some schools are being funded by the government Financial Needs for Rachana Project, Pune

Recommendations –Assign Paritosh and Chirag Shah as AshaAZ Project Champions as they will/have conducted site visits –Consider funding for 3 years Recurring Annual Salary expenses of $6500 for 3 years One time Furniture/heater/pump expenses of $1500 in 2008 Rachana Project, Pune, India
