Mathletes Fab Five Divide. 1. 2. 3. 1) 122 2) 1.22 3) 0.5

Rational Numbers and Decimals Lesson 3.1

Any number that can be written as the ratio. Rational Numbers a and b have to be integers

Terminating Decimals A decimal that comes to an end Examples: 1.34 0.567845321 3.4565

A decimal that repeats one of more digits infinitely. Examples: Repeating Decimals The line on top of the number(s) is called bar notation. It means to repeat that block of number(s).

A decimal that terminates or repeats can be written as a fraction and thus is a Rational Number Rational Number

Decimals that never end or repeat Example: 0.121121112… 0.16125931… Square roots that are not perfect squares Irrational Numbers

Terminating decimal – When the conversion of a fraction to decimals end with a remainder of zero. Writing Fractions as Decimals For example, FractionDecimal Terminates

When the same block of digits in a decimal repeats without end, that is called a repeating decimal. Writing Fractions as Decimals For example, FractionDecimal Remember the bar notation!

Start off by dividing the fraction, then putting the decimal together with the whole number. Writing Mixed Numbers into Decimals For example, FractionDecimal whole number decimal
