2 Background to longitude and time.
The earth spins on its axis once every twenty-four hours and in that time it passes through 360 degrees of longitude. The earth travels through 15 degrees of longitude every hour. If you know how many degrees of longitude separate two places you can work out the time difference between the places. Places west from the starting point are behind in time. Places east are ahead.

The Oscars are being awarded in Hollywood (Los Angeles 120W) at 8pm the show is broadcast live on TV in England (0 degrees) at what time? If it is 6pm in Kobe (135E) what time will it be in New York (75W)? hai
