1 Journals/Bellwork/Class Motto
First thing you do EVERYDAY! We will start with least 4 sentences & increase throughout the year. I grade these periodically throughout the semester. So don’t fall behind. Not grading grammar or spelling…please don’t write short sentences Monday-Video Day Tuesday-Textbook Wednesday-What do you know? Thursday-Textbook Friday-Requiz You will need a small college ruled notebook or composition notebook set aside only for your journal. It is not to be used for ANYTHING else. There is a small white board at the front of the room where you will find the question(s). We will need a few volunteers to get them out each day and put them away. When you are finished writing in them pass them in to the edge of the desk with the sinks and they will be picked up. Please write the date AND the question each day along with the sentences required. Begin where you finished the day before (don’t waste space) If you are absent you DO NOT need to make these up. The more you write the better your grade will be. If you choose NOT to write in your journals it is VERY likely that your grade will fall at least one letter grade… Sometimes we will do bellwork that will require your workbooks, I will write this on the journal board.

3 Discipline Guidelines:
Strike System First Strike is a warning Second Strike earns you 10 minutes of lunch detention and refocus sheet Third Strike earns you an entire lunch period, refocus & possibly referral If you earn even 1 per week, no privileges (bring in snacks) on the last day of the week. If you don’t have any strikes that week you will be eligible for the weekly drawing. Quarterly we have a prize for the class that has the LEAST amount of strikes. What can earn a strike? Here are some ideas but is NOT limited to just these items: Getting out of your seat w/out permission Talking w/out being called upon (yelling out, not raising your hand) Being rude (hitting others, stealing their things to get attention) Talking to people delivering notes, etc Throwing things Sharpening your pencil w/out permission (goes back to the getting out of your seat) Talking when others have “the floor” 2. You can earn up to 3 strikes in one day, the next day starts all over again. If you receive strikes excessively, any step may be “skipped” depending upon behavior Horseplay during labs is an automatic zero. I can not tolerate any misbehaving during labs due to the nature of the activity = ( Some behaviors earn automatic referrals…so don’t think I will give you a warning for fighting, etc. If you earn even one strike for the entire week you will NOT be able to bring in snacks on the last day of the week, nor participate in special events (if applicable) You will also have to fill out a refocus sheet which will be filed away. Every week starts fresh. If you do not receive a strike for the entire week, you are allowed to bring in snacks of your choice on that last day of the week only.

4 Lab Instruction NO HORSEPLAY Stay in your station
Always follow directions! Clean up…leave things BETTER than the way you found them When you are done, go sit down Listen for the stoplight. Whiz kid-(extra helpers) You will need a graphing composition notebook for labs. Horseplay can lead to people getting hurt and things getting broken. Sorry but I will NOT tolerate horseplay. You will receive an automatic zero and can not make up the lab. If it continues to be a problem you will lose your lab privileges for the remainder of the year. No roaming around, stay at your assigned station. Always clean up your station and any instruments used. When you are done, see if anyone else needs help cleaning up, if not then please go sit down…again no roaming around.

5 Tardy policy-Strike referral Absence-YOU must check large calendar
Homework-given EVERY Friday then due the next Friday (or last day of the week) Late work-accepted until unit is over then you must attend Saturday school (not Honors) Tardy policy-Strike referral Absence-YOU must check large calendar I am the bell; I dismiss you  Water ok in class  There will be a homework assignment given every Friday and due the next Friday, which will be posted on the front board by the agenda. Late Work- can only earn up to 70%. You can ALWAYS fix assignments-one point for every 2 points corrected. Tardy policy-you are expected to be IN your seat when the bells in finished ringing. The students chose if you are tardy you will be expected to do 50, 50, 50 (50 of each: crunches, leg lifts and pushups), OF COURSE I will be more then happy to hear your side of the story, so please do not be afraid to let me know why you are tardy, I can be sympathetic = ) If you are unable to do these we will come up with an alternative solution. I would never make anyone do something that would cause them to hurt themselves. Having said that, I do believe this is a life skill and students should be on time. Absences-Students are responsible for their own absences. Please check the large calendar on the cabinet that says “Absence: Look Here” to see what you missed. Or you can check the website calendar and sometimes the website will have the make-up assignment you can print off at home. Otherwise there will be a worksheet station the student can get the make up assignment from. When the bell rings, I need to assess the room to make sure everything is in its place (labs, etc) so please remain seated and quiet, I will then dismiss you, this is NOT time consuming, and no need to fear being late to your next class.

6 Following Directions Raise your hand
Don’t get our of your seat w/out permission Bathroom/Locker-sign out-2 passes per quarter Pencils & paper-I have both so just ask Gum chewing-I don’t want to see or hear it Cell Phones-place in slot OR don’t bring it Raise your hand to be called upon, or to get up out of your seat. You MAY get up and quietly get a tissue if necessary, you do not need to ask. Bathroom/Locker-you will receive 4 bathroom passes per semester. These can be turned in at the end for extra credit if unused. Pencils are available to be borrowed…take a pencil leave a shoe. If you need to sharpen your pencil, you may “shake” the pencil and I will nod yes or no whether you can get up to do so = ) Paper can be found in baskets on either side of the classroom. Gum-I just don’t want to see it, or hear it and PLEASE keep it off our desk = ) Gum ball machine Rules: NO PLAYING THE GUM BALL MACHINE IF I AM ABSENT! You can only play if your work is done or between classes. Cell phones are not wanted in the classrooms. If you bring yours you must put it in the basket and you may pick it up at the end of the period, otherwise DON’T BRING IT!

7 Lastly… No profanity No throwing things Mailbox
No talking to people coming in No Spit balls No Writing on my chalkboard/ whiteboard Mailbox Substitutes Computer/ internet use Plagiarism/ cheating= zero  I don’t cuss at you so I expect the same in return When people come into the classroom you are not to address them, unless give permission from me, (usually it is a disruption) Spit balls are my pet peeve…REMEMBER people WILL tell on you! Please do not write on my boards unless otherwise told to do so. They are hard to keep clean = ( Mailbox-if you ever have a question but it just isn’t the time to ask it, write it down and place it on the mailbox & I will address it as soon as possible. Substitutes-you show me respect when you show them respect. Please follow all normal classroom procedures. Computer/internet use. Absolutely no games, you will lose this privilege if discovered….again people always tattle. Plagiarism-always give credit where credit is due, this is an automatic zero and possible referral. That goes for the one cheating and the one allowing the cheating.
