Florida: The Creative Class Use creativity as key factor in work, business, education… < 38 million members in 2002… It’s a social “class,” because it is a fundamentally economic phenomenon Creative Class has a value set that differentiates it from other classes

This Creative Class values…

Where does value lie in the creative class? Worker autonomy – because creative people need to be able to influence the ends toward which they work and not merely the means by which they work Collaboration – because new opportunities may require a mix of skills that a) do not reside in a single individual or discipline and b) are difficult to anticipate Diversity – of experience, especially, but also of viewpoints…because this feeds creativity!

What do you want to do? Not what kind of job you want…but -what do you want to spend most of your day-to-day life engaged in? -what kind of outcome do you want your work to contribute to? What do you want to make -what sort of impact do you want your work to have on others? Now…what kind of work environment does this suggest? What kind of job?

P3 in a nutshell 1.Create employment documents – a resume and a letter of application – that you could use to pursue a specific employment opportunity 2.You’ll need to gather actual job/internship/grad school etc. ads 3.You’ll consider how best to represent your experiences and abilities, and how these align with the interests of those seeking candidates
