Write an equation. n – 15 = 0 or n + 16 = 0 n = {15} MUST BE POSITIVE CHECK YOUR ANSWER Then, n + 1 would be the 2nd consecutive positive integer. n(n + 1) = 240 n 2 + n = 240 n 2 + n – 240 = 0 Solve the equation. Factor the equation. n = {–16, 15} (n – 15)(n + 16) = 0 Answer: The 2 consecutive positive integers are 15 and 16.

5 CHECK n(n + 1) = 240 if n = {15} 15(15 + 1) = 240 15(16) = 240 240 = 240 TRUE
