3  A general English language program should focus on the four basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in addition to providing instruction in grammar and vocabulary. Sometimes a single textbook is used because each chapter addresses multiple skills. Other times a separate book is used for each skill area. Whatever the material is, the main objectives for reading remain the same. 2

4  Students will engage in daily, meaningful reading tasks in English class. The tasks will be based on the following objectives: 1.Pre-read and scan academic materials to develop a sense of a text’s scope and emerging meaning. 2.Determine the author's purpose, intended audience, tone and the text’s general context. 3.Recognize and understand a work’s thesis or theme and the methods of organization used to support the thesis or develop the theme. 4.Summarize, paraphrase, synthesize ideas from what they have read. 5.Evaluate the evidence presented and state an opinion about what they have read.  Students will engage in daily, meaningful reading tasks in English class. 7  The four skills of English Language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) are all out of 100. But because we are teaching each skill alone, so we will assume that each skill is out of 100. At the end of the semester the teacher who is responsible for your group will collect all your marks from the other English language teachers and then divide them all by 4. Therefore, your final total mark is now out of 100. 6
