Font Size and Color Choose a font style, color, and size that is easy for your audience to read Stick with traditional fonts (Arial, Times New Roman, Tahoma) Some fonts are difficult to read Select a color that appears on the background Using size 60 font is not necessary; fit the text to the box
3
Information to Include Highlight what you will be talking about in your speech Do not type out your entire speech on your PowerPoint Divide your information into categories Use bullet points and titles on each slide Be sure to have a title slide and a bibliography
4
Slides Keep slides attractive and professional looking. Distracting slides could take away from the content. Examples of things to avoid: too many transitions & animations too much clutter per slide
5
Remember… Make presentations pleasing and interesting without overusing transitions and animations. Preview your presentation before presenting it Think of your audience… Is your presentation one you would like to sit through?
7
Creating Presentation Notecards Use your outline to help you create your notecards Presentation notes are brief reminders of the points a speaker wants to cover during the speech Presentation notes include points that a speaker does not want to risk forgetting
8
Notecards Plan your notecards according to logical blocks of material or the structure you planned for your outline For example: You first notecard could be labeled “Introduction” and your last notecard could be labeled “conclusion”. Use only one side of the notecard! Number your notecards to prevent you from shuffling the notes or panicking if your cards get out of order.
9
Notecards Use large letters and dark ink. Make sure your notes are neat and easy to read. Write down only the minimum number of words or phrases needed to jog your memory If too much is written on a notecard, you may overlook key points or spend too much time trying to find your place You should be looking at your audience at least 85% of the time
10
Notecards Good presentation notes include not only what you have to say but how you want to say it! Make the delivery cues stand out from your content notes Pause Here! Look up! Slow down! Speak louder!
11
Final Thoughts Whatever form your notes take, the most important thing is that they make sense to you! Presentation notes make you feel more confident, self-assured, and as secure public speaker!
