ASER PAKISTAN 2011 ASER- Annual Status of Education report is a survey of the quality of education. ASER seeks to fill a gap in educational data by looking to provide a reliable set of data at the national level, that is comprehensive and at the same time, easy to understand. ASER is a citizen led survey and it is conducted with the help of Govt, Civil Society Organizations and some other stakeholders working in education sector.

To get reliable estimates of the status of children’s schooling and basic learning (reading and arithmetic level) at the district level. To measure the change in these basic learning and school statistics from last year. To interpret these results and use them to affect policy decisions at various level. OBJECTIVES OF ASER

ASER Pakistan focuses on status of schooling and learning level of the children. In ASER we assess that How well our children learn? What are the competencies of our children in Urdu, English & Math? The test conducted for the said assessment are up to class II & III level designed from their textbooks. FOCUS OF ASER

Coverage : In all five provinces i.e. Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and FATA & AJK.- Rural Phase I : Year I 2010 – 32 districts across Pakistan Phase II: Year II 2011 – 85 districts across Pakistan (84 Rural + 3 Urban /2 overlap with rural districts) Phase III : Years III, IV, V all districts across Pakistan (138 districts) Sample: 600 households per district. Two-stage stratified sample; 30 Villages will be selected randomly using the village directory of the latest Census. The Probability Proportional to Size Sampling (PPS) technique will be adopted as an appropriate one when the sampling units are of different sizes. 20 households per village and in each village 1 govt. and 1 private school are surveyed SCALE & SCOPE OF ASER

Enrollment In Punjab Enrollment rate is 84% and Chiniot is below par as it has 75%. A big concern is out of school children aged 11-16 years which totals 37% of the age group.

District Wise Enrollment Comparison Among the 28 districts surveyed, Chiniot is ranked 24 followed by Multan, R.Y., Lodhran and Rajanpur. Learning Levels Only 37% children can do subtraction of Grade 2 level. Same compared with Faisalabad shows that 58% children there can do the same.

Mother’s Literacy A literate Mother can better take care of her children’s education and this indicator in Chiniot is again alarming as only 26% mothers are literate. Neighboring district Faisalabad has double mothers literacy rate than that of Chiniot.
