Mark Twain once said: Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. There is nothing in the world like a persuasive speech to fuddle the mental apparatus and upset the convictions and debauch the emotions of an audience not practiced in the tricks and delusions of oratory.

Introduction Attention getting device (Quotations, Startling statements, Statistics, Story) Overview of main points

Body 3 to 5 main points Subpoints – must have a least 2 Support (facts, statistics, stories, personal experience)

Conclusion Summarize your main points Refer back to your attention getting device Tell your audience what you want them to remember or do

Delivery Practice out loud Be loud enough Have eye contact with your audience Make it interesting by adding inflection which is increasing and decreasing your volume, rate, and pitch The better you know your material, the easier this is to do

Final thoughts As a board member or administrator, you will be speaking about your district and what is going on in public education Be sure you to know what your own district is doing and speak about that Preparation and practice will help give you the confidence you will need to give an effective presentation
