1 Unification Church Birth and Beginnings Lesson #12: Pioneering

2 ~ I had a second start in Pusan. I dug a hole and built a house. It was shabby with walls made of dirt. It was built on a steep slope. I made a temporary roof with old boxes. The House With Dirt Walls

3 ~ When I wrote “Wolli Wonbon” (first draft of the Divine Principle), I took it very seriously. If I lost and died, what would happen? Have you ever thought about it? Who knew that it was the world-wide spiritual bread? Wolli Wonbon

4 ~ I established HSA-UWC (Holy Spirit Association for Unification of World Christianity) in Seoul on May 1st, 1954. HSA-UWC

5 ~ In the beginning, I didn’t try to make a church. I tried to start a movement that transcended churches. However, nobody accepted me, so I established the Unification Church. HSA-UWC

6 ~The President of Ewha University sent Dr.Young Oon Kim to our church in order to investigate me. She joined the church within one week. Ministry Centered on Professors and Students Young Oon Kim

7 Many professors joined the church after that. About 380 students also joined. Ministry Centered on Professors and Students

8 ~ Unification Church was persecuted by the president and vice- president of Ewha and Yonsei universities. Some professors and students were expelled from the universities. Persecution Began

9 ~ If I could lead the students of Ewha and Yonsei universities, President Rhee would be involved. General Hodge from the United States army was under his leadership, so there would have been a way to reach the United States and the world. Ministry Centering on College Students

10 ~ Ewha University was a Christian university supported by the United States. The leaders of the school were afraid of the unknown Unification Church. Ewha University

11 ~ Five professors and 14 students were expelled from school because they joined our church. If Ewha and Yonsei universities hadn’t gone against us, all of Christianity in Korea would have been restored. Persecution Began Paek Pak

12 ~ I was imprisoned on the charge of avoiding the draft on July 4,1955. I was beyond the age of a soldier because I came from North Korea. Seo Dae prison

13 Released From Prison ~ I was found innocent and released from prison on October 4, 1955.

14 ~ I called Bong-Choon Choi to go to Japan as a missionary. I told him to go there at the risk of his life. Sending Out Missionaries
